Preface

The poetry in this book reflects my life experiences, as they relate to the
wonders of creation (especially mountains), my bipolar disorder, my reason to
hope, and my beloved animal friends. There is a section of humor, and a few
poems that refuse to be classified and fall into a theme. The subject matter often
overlaps, making it difficult at times to classify a poem into a specific category.
In addition to the poems in this book, I have included several short vignettes,
not to explain the poems, but more to add detail and information. Most of this
book is biographical. My hope is that what I disclose about myself will help
someone else who is struggling with a mental illness or that it will help some-
one better understand a family member or a friend so affected.
More than anything else, I want this book to bring honor to the One who cre-
ated me and loves me just as I am, even as He patiently works to make me more
than I ever expected to be.
